Snoqualmie Falls

Earlier this year, on a whim, my boyfriend and I drove into the Cascades just to see what views we would come across. Just as the sun dipped behind the mountains, we popped in at the Salish Lodge to see the famous waterfall behind it…and were surprised to find it was the geographic inspiration behind the Great Northern Hotel of the Twin Peaks series. If dining at the hotel restaurant, try the pie - it’s a nod at the cult classic series as well.

North Cascades

I knew ahead of time (from Google and countless blog posts and articles) what this view of Lake Diablo would look like, but that didn’t stop be from getting physically winded as soon as our car rumbled to a stop at this famous lookout. There is something surreal and heady about seeing waters this brilliant from this high up. Making a mental note to come back and see it in fall/winter mist and gloom someday.

Scenes from the Road

Being on a road trip means infinite opportunities to get a moody out-the-window shot of scenery passing by. My boyfriend took these photos a couple weeks ago while I drove us part of the way home from the Cascades in his V8 Mustang. I processed them afterward to look how the trip felt: hazy and expansive and dripping in syrupy gold light.
